Vault by Vans x Brain Dead Summer Capsule

Brain Dead and Vans Vault have combined once again for a special capsule release, which continues to explore lo-fi print iconography found in old comics and magazines, frequently applied as graphic treatments throughout Brain Dead's mainline collection.

Coming together with long-time collaborator Kevin Harris, the collection is made up of two graphic tees, two short-sleeved woven shirts, a cap and a canvas tote bag that feature a custom graphic language and colour treatment running throughout. The capsule is highlighted by the footwear offerings which include a custom rework of the Classic Slip-On LX, Old Skool LX and the Era LX silhouettes. Constructed from nubuck suede, all 3 styles align with the apparel offering and arrive in three Summer ready pastel options, detailed with small illustrative graphics from the upper down to the midsole.

The Vault by Vans x Brain Dead Summer 2017 Capsule release will be available from select retailers including Goodhood from Saturday the 24th of June.

Brain Dead x Vans

Vans continue to add to their long list of collaborative ventures, this time tapping the mind of Kyle NG - the creative force behind Brain Dead, on a subtle rework of the classic Sk8-Hi silhouette.

The collaboration sees the reprise of the brands ever popular and iconic checkerboard pattern, applied to three tonal styles of the classic Sk8-Hi silhouette. The textured upper is complimented with tonal lacing and sole unit, which is detailed with “STAMP OUT REALITY” embossed in to the midsole, and capped off with subtle Brain Dead patch branding on the ankle.

The Brain Dead x Vans Sk8-Hi release is now available exclusively at Dover Street Market locations in New York and London, as well as online.

Brain Dead Drop Five – Mondo

Creative collective Brain Dead have unveiled their 5th collection, which has dropped in UK stores and online now, again drawing from numerous obscure references for a refreshing approach towards the graphic lead staples.

Dubbed "Mondo" which takes inspiration from the controversial 60's documentary Mondo Cane, the collection pulls elements from skate and surf culture, old punk aesthetics, classic cartoons and more specific themes such as shokushu goukan - Japanese tentacle erotica, with bold graphics translated on to tees, long sleeves and tote bags. Alongside the more familiar logo graphic pieces which features throughout, the release is bulked out with a considered selection of cut & sew, featuring the Japanese inspired Noragi chore coat, and two patterned short sleeve shirts which feature the artwork of Jen Shear. Rounding of the collection is a small headwear range made up of embroidered 6 panels and mesh truckers, as well as printed tote bags and sticker collection.

The latest collection from Brain Dead is available over on the brands online store as well as selected UK retailers including Goodhood and Garbstore.

Brain Dead launch Record Label

Last week, creative collective Brain Dead announced the launch of its new record label, as brand owners Kyle NG and Ed Davis look to develop the brand further than it's more widely known clothing line and invest more in to the culture that surrounds it.

Although their impactful clothing line has been leading the hype amongst the brands cult following, Brain Dead has always been way more than just that, working on projects such as art exhibitions, special edition zines, home goods and toys, while their is also talk of comic books and films coming up next. Their latest venture sees the collective introduce it's own record label and with it a concise capsule collection, teaming up with their newest musical recruits including Gaslamp Killer, Michael Kopelman, Pubesky, Gaul Plus and Khun Narin to curate mixes which are presented in tape form and are also available to listen to online. The tapes are accompanied by a small range of apparel including graphic tees, branded hats and pins to promote the launch of the new project.

Hypebeast recently sat down with the brands founders Kyle and Ed to find out a bit more on their latest venture. You can read the full interview HERE.

You can also stay up to date with the latest from Brain Dead Records over on their soundcloud and shop the collection over on their website and at Goodhood now.

Brain Dead “World Update” Installation at DSM London

BrainDead-WorldUpdate-1

In celebration of common interests, Brain Dead and Dover Street Market come together on an exclusive collaborative collection and a new in-store installation at DSM’s London location.

The theme of both the collection and installation centres around the pairs shared passions in various trends and emerging subcultures from music, culture and art, and the space in-between these worlds. Although it’s their most diverse offering so far, it’s not the first time the two parties have come together on a collaborative venture, with Brain Dead putting their artistic direction towards an exclusive t-shirt collection towards the end of last year.

The new “World Update” installation is set to host exhibitions, as well as showcase zines, records and extremely limited art pieces that align with Brain Dead’s aesthetic. The main focus of the space will be the latest Brain Dead x DSM collaborative collection which features a monochromatic selection of unique graphic tees, crewneck sweatshirts, custom headwear and the stand out ‘Jumanji’ jacket. Capping it all off, there will also be a scarf exhibit displayed on the walls of the space, featuring the work of Clay Arlington, Kevin Harris, Tim Head, Chris Oh, Jen Shear and B. Thom Stevenson. Each piece is unique and arrives in editions of 5. When purchased each scarf will come with a hand-signed certificate from each artist and will be presented in a collectors box

You can shop the Brain Dead x Dover Street Market collection over on the DSM website now. If you’re around London over the next two weeks, be sure to head down to the store to check out the space.

Brain Dead AW15 ‘Drop 3’ Lookbook

Brain Dead have released the latest set of visuals to showcase offerings from their ‘Drop 3’ release this season.

Described as a ‘creative collective of artists and designers from around the world’, Brain Dead are one of very few brands on the market who are really carving out a unique identity, at the very forefront of the graphic t-shirt movement of late, in which we are seeing more and more smaller brands emerge. Citing inspirations from the worlds of post punk, skateboarding, comics and the rebellious spirit of subcultures as a whole, Brain Dead keep it simple with the silhouettes but their strengths lie in the bold designs they produce. Drop 3 consists of tees, caps and tote bag’s all bearing the brands vibrant and distinctive designs, drawing from the aesthetic of a typical American motel.

Head over to braindead.xxx for more information on the brand and to shop the latest release. You can also pick up pieces from the latest collection, as well as bits from the brands collaborative venture with DSM over at doverstreetmarket.com
