Element x Patrick Schmidt ‘The Guardians’ Collection

 Element have come together with young London based, Welsh illustrator Patrick Schmidt on a unique collaborative board series dubbed the "Guardians" collection. As part of the brands perspective project, which showcases work from Element advocates, renowned guest artists & up and coming talent, the designs draw inspiration from traditional woven Tibetan Tiger rugs which are thought to provide the user protection when meditating. Each deck features the spirit animals of the respective rider - for Westgate you've got the bobcat, Nick Garcia’s a coyote and Julian Davidson a snake, all of which stick to the same colourful, cartoony style, laid out in the shape of an animal rug across deck series and a small run of tees.

  The Element x Patrick Schmidt “Guardians” collection by Patrick Schmidt is available now over at elementbrand.com

S.O.O.N x REBEL YUTH – ‘RICK & RUSSELL’

London based brand S.O.O.N link up with popular British illustrator Rebel Yuth to present a duo of designs that pay homage to two of Hip-Hop’s most inspirational figures – Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons.

John Speed a.k.a Rebel Yuth applies his signature style to the design which include the tag lines ‘Kick It Like Rick’ and ‘Hustle Like Russell’. Each design has been hand printed at the brands London studio onto pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton tees. The brands founder Johnny Grant had this to say on the collection;

The rich history of the def jam story and its humble beginnings is always something that has connected with and inspired me. So, when I met John (Rebel Yuth) and I mentioned doing a series of tee illustrations of people that really optimise the S.O.O.N ethos, amongst other ideas, I talked about Russell Simmons. The next day i saw a quick illustration he had done of Rick Rubin pop up on his Instagram i called him straight away and told him that was it…”

The release is super limited to only 31 pieces of each design to coincide with Def Jam’s 31st Anniversary, and will include an exclusive ‘Rick and Russell’ sticker pack. You can pick yours up at www.somethingoutofnothing.co.uk

The Hundreds by Todd Bratrud Collection

The Hundreds link up with the sharpie-wielding Todd Bratrud as they apply the artists unique, teen-inspired designs to a selection of apparel in their latest collaborative capsule collection.

Having previously worked with the likes of Nike SB and Volcom, Todd Bratrud’s style fits well into the Californian street wear brands aesthetic, taking inspiration from our favourite juvenile vices including comic books, pin-ball machine artwork, skateboarding and half-naked ladies, as well as an appearance from The Hundreds iconic Adam Bomb. The collection arrives in a black and white colour palette and consists of short and long sleeves tees, pullover hoodies, woven button down shirt, 5 panel and a fitting notebook and sharphie combo.

Todd Bratrud said this on the collab:

“This project and these drawings are as simple as what happens when you keep a marker on you at all times, obviously bathroom walls are where the best examples of this style of ‘art’ can be found. Also, I physically (and mentally) can’t stop drawing, so these crude drawings might be the most accurate depiction of how my mind works when it comes to creating art.”

Black Scale x Pimp C illustrated look book by 5Pointz

In celebration of Black Scale’s collaboration with the estate of Hip Hop legend Pimp C, Bristol’s 5Pointz call on the talents of Detroit based illustrator Zach Thompson A.K.A Vizualzmt to create a set of images using his rough, sketchy style to reincarnate the artist wearing key pieces from the release.

The concise collection features a selection of short and long sleeved graphic based tees, as well as 2 caps paying homage to the late rapper. The designs rework classic Black Scale logos such as the Black Flag and incorporate themes associated with the rapper, from the famous polystyrene cup and ‘purple drank’, to ‘RIP Pimp C’ motifs and artwork of the man himself.

The Black Scale X PIMP C collection will be available from 5Pointz by the end of this week!
