Vans – The Sidestripe Capsule

The iconic sidestripe has come a long way since it was first introduced back in 1977. This Autumn/Winter Vans celebrate the sidestripe with an exclusive t-shirt capsule collection.

Having began it’s life as a mere doodle from Vans founder Paul Van Doren, the globally recognised symbol first appeared on the Vans Old Skool design and has since made it’s way on to several of Vans most loved silhouettes. The capsule collection consists of four t-shirt designs in black, white and navy colour ways, as well as a raglan tee with a black body and white sleeves. Each design displays the sidestripe in different ways including a bold graphic print, pocket designs, as well as making use of Vans equally iconic checkerboard pattern.

The Vans Sidestripe Capsule Collection is available now at select retailers and vans.co.uk.

The Vans sidestripe started as a mere doodle from founder Paul Van Doren and has since turned into an iconic symbol of the brands heritage. Originally known as the ‘Jazz Stripe’ the motif has marked some of the most iconic silhouettes in Vans history including one of their most celebrated styles: The Old Skool.

The Old Skool arrived in 1977 and was known back then as “style 36”. Both durable and innovative the shoe quickly became a favourite amongst Skateboarders and BMX riders worldwide.

This Spring Vans are celebrating the legacy of the Sidestripe with an expanded offering of the Old Skool, focusing highly on colour, pattern and material.

Check the video interview below with Steve Van Doren explaining a bit more about the history of the Sidestripe…
