Umbro Pro Training X The Rig Out ‘LAds’ Editorial

In a release that is sure to get the football obsessed of the 90’s excited, Umbro will be re-introducing their Pro Training range to the UK shortly and to celebrate, they have teamed up with The Rig Out to produce this editorial entitled “LAds”.

It’s quite a nostalgic release for me, as I’m sure it is for anyone who used to play or even cared about football in the 90’s. One of my earliest memories was wearing my full silver Euro 96 England kit and watching my dad react to that heart breaking penalty miss from Gareth Southgate in the quarter final. Umbro definitely knew how to make a decent football shirt back then and with the growing popularity of football shirts on the global streetwear scene at the minute, it’s good to see one of the OG’s showing us how its done by re-introducing some of their most iconic styles.

Recent years have seen glimmers of a resurgence from the brand with big name collaborations, most recently with London’s PALACE and before that more of a high end collab with designer Aitor Throup. It seemed that no matter how hard they tried to come away from it, there was always a certain stigma attached to the brand, but with this release though they may have finally cracked it. The timing seems right and I feel there is an audience for it that will give it the respect the brand deserves. The initial Pro Training collection includes reimagined silky replica football shirts, sweaters, training tops and shorts, alongside basic vests and bucket hats, all adorning the famous diamond Umbro logo in a mix of prints and patterns. The gritty lookbook from the guys at The Rig Out gives the collection more of a street status, shot on location in the summery streets of Venice Beach, California.

The Umbro Pro Training collection will be dropping at size? and other Umbro retailers shortly. There will also be a full Umbro in LA story in The Rig Out’s next printed magazine which is due at the end of the month.
