5Boro stay killing it with their deck series as they develop on their hugely popular 2014 VHS series release with three brand new designs.
Having put out some of the strongest deck graphic designs of the last year or so, including the first VHS series, Stefan Marx ‘Airline Series and the tropical ‘Caliente’ Series, 5Boro revisit the skate video golden era and pay homage to the VHS tapes of the 90’s in their latest release. The series consists of three debut pro models of Rob Gonyon, Silvester Eduardo and Jordan Trahan, with the graphics inspired by the designs on the old TDK blank VHS tapes.
The 5Boro NYC ‘VHS II’ Deck Series is available now at www.5boronyc.com and will be landing at all good UK skate stores shortly.
Teaming up with artist Monica Kim Garza, 5Boro channel some serious tropical vibes for their latest deck series dubbed ‘Caliente’
Raised in Atlanta and eventually moving to Brooklyn, NY, Garza draws inspiration from her Korean-Mexican decent, informing her various artworks which include paintings, drawings, ceramics and collages. Having delivered two solid Deck series releases already this year in the ‘VHS’ series and ‘Airline’ series with Stefan Marx, 5Boro now look to Monica Kim Garza to bring her unique hand painted approach to boards and a small selection of apparel. The ‘exotically erotic’ designs focus around a voluptuous figure enjoying the sun, sea and sand, juxtaposed with a distinctively New York City inspired background.
You can pick up the 5Boro NYC x Monica Kim Garza ‘Caliente’ Series now at www.5boronyc.com. I haven’t found any solid confirmation on a UK release just yet, but as soon as I do I’ll keep you posted!
LA skate company WKND follow up on their hugely popular ‘Babes’ series with another awesome 90’s themed pack in the “Date Series”.
The brand are known for referencing retro pop culture in their designs and their latest release continues to develop this theme. Each graphic features portrait shots of some of the greatest on and off screen power couples of our time, including Kurt Cobaine & Courtney Love, J.Lo & Puffy, Murray & Dione from Clueless, Corey & Topanga from Boy Meets World, The Bundy’s from Love & Marriage, and Jerry & Elaine from Seinfeld, surrounded by patterns that are reminiscent of the era and link to each relationship.
Made in the USA at generator workshop, WKND have killed it once again with this series, with quality in both construction and the design. You can pick up a deck from WKND’s “Date Series” now at Native Skate Store and Flatspot. Be on the look out for the accompanying apparel also!
