Polar Skate Co. x Carhartt WIP Editorial

BTL_Lookbook_07

Polar Skate Co.’s unique designs meet Carhartt WIP’s style focused outerwear as the two brands link up this Autumn for a limited collaborative collection.

Carhartt WIP have been the focus of many collaborations over the past few years with the likes of A.P.C and Vans in their portfolio. This year has seen Polar Skate Co. chiming in with a huge collab of their own with the release of their reworked Converse Cons CTAS Pro. This season the brands styles combine effortlessly as they present a robust yet wearable offering, built with quality in mind and a high attention to detail.

The outcome is a strong selection of skate ready goods as Polar revisit a selection of classic Carhartt shapes. The collection includes graphic print t-shirts featuring modernist illustrations, inspired by Greek antiquity, as well as cut and sew pieces in the long sleeve shirts and quilted lined vests. There is a beanie and team decks, as well as a nice touch in a dual branded pen featuring the ‘big head’ logo.  Each item is constructed from premium fabrics including suede, denim and cotton, with additional detailing in the suede labelling.

It was great for us personally when we heard news on the collaboration, holding Polar and Carhartt WIP as two of our favourite brands here at By The Level. Polar embodies what contemporary skateboarding is all about and this is translated through their original designs and the media they put out. Its refreshing to see an independent brand try new things and offer clothing and hardware designs that give something different, not just bowing to current trends. Their latest collaboration sees the brand continue to develop, and with Carhartt WIP’s trustworthy and highly functional outerwear meets street wear garments at their disposal, the concise collection is a well rounded success.

The Polar Skate Co. X Carhartt WIP Collection is available now at selected retailers in the UK, at carhartt-wip.com and polarskateco.com. Also be sure to check out the awesome STOKER issue 1 HERE.

ONLY NY Fall/Winter 2014 Lookbook

Manhattan based Only NY return this Fall/Winter with another solid collection and a unique set of visuals to accompany the release.

For this season’s lookbook, each member of the Only NY team were given a disposable camera and a time limit of a week to shoot in New York City from Harlem to Lower East Side. A great concept that further showcases the brands unique creative approach and the result are a very real and gritty set of images that fit the collection perfectly. The clothing itself is made entirely in the US and is available in limited qualities, comprising of bold graphic tees, button-down shirts, crew neck sweaters, outerwear pieces and a large headwear selection.

Only NY continue with nostalgic themes and they have really managed to capture the essence of 90’s New York through their designs, taking a particular focus on vintage sportswear. We will definitely be picking up a few pieces from the collection with the embroidered Sportsman crew neck and Sporting Goods Polo hat catching our eye!

The Only NY Fall/Winter 2014 collection is available now at onlynylives.com and will be available in the UK shortly at the following stores;

The Hundreds Winter 2014 Collection

The Hundreds head to Anchorage, Alaska with photographer Jovell Rennie to showcase their latest offering for Winter 2014 in this impressive look book set in the great outdoors.

Looking back at the brands history in flying the flag for independent counter culture, this seasons offerings channel riots, rebellion and unrest as it’s main inspirations. Stepping away from their usual vibrant tones, the subdued colour palette gives a more mature approach in a line that embodies ‘mobility, progression and protection’ across a range of staple winter items.

Comprising of mostly robust outerwear pieces, the collection includes pullover sweaters, flannel button-down shirts, quilted body warmers, two-tone jackets and cargo pants. Keeping logos and graphics to a minimum, the use of camo print throughout to the collection is a nod to the brands appreciation towards militant subcultures.

Bobby Hundreds had this to say on the release:

One of the clearest ways of defining who you are is by fighting against what you are not. The Hundreds was established as a response – to convention, to rules, and industry paradigms.  As a couple of kids who built something out of nothing, we’ve proudly bore the flag of the independents and the counterculture.  We’ve sought revolution – a new philosophy for how clothing should be understood, brands experienced, and companies built.  The Hundreds Winter 2014 is inspired by this history.  The season considers the uniform of radical thinkers and progressive activists. It acknowledges the fashion aesthetic of social change from punk to politics to protests. You know what you stand for. This is what you’ll stand in.”

Enjoy the lookbook below shot against a stunning Alaskan backdrop by Jovell Rennie. The Hundreds Winter 2014 collection will be available in UK stores soon so be sure to check back for links. For more information visit thehundreds.com

KR3W Autumn 2014 Editorial

krew_02

Following our recent Q & A with the brands design director Jack Toledo, we take a closer look into KR3W‘s Autumn collection and highlight some of our favourite pieces in our latest lookbook.

Aptly entitled the ‘Dark Americana’ collection, the Americana inspired release arrives in a moody colour palette with lots of dark washes, blacks, greys, shadow plaid and camo. Alongside iconic graphic pieces such as the grim reaper and KR3W KILLS designs, is a range of more technical cut and sew items from expertly crafted jackets to shirting, as well as fashionable basics and a clean headwear selection.

Making its first appearance, the No.11 range sits within the mainline collection and features a range of classic cuts in both denim and non-denim bottoms, as well as shirts and outerwear pieces made from premium fabrics. Honouring their skateboarding roots, the new Rehab Denim technology is applied to classic KR3W styles to provide durability, comfort and a superior fit during movement.

Check out images from our shoot below and if you haven’t already be sure to read our interview with KR3W’s Jack ToledoHERE. The KR3W ‘Dark Americana’ collection for Autumn 2014 is available now at kr3wdenim.com and the following retailers;
