Nike Air Max Zero

Nike introduces the Air Max Zero

In the build up to one of the biggest sneaker celebrations of the year – Air Max day, the internet came ablaze with a teaser suggesting the arrival of a new Air Max silhouette from Tinker Hatfields design archives. Nike now lift the lid on the design as they present the Air Max Zero. The one before the 1.

Contrary to beliefs, the perfection of the Air Max 1 wasn’t put together in one go, rather it was the result of several design attempts. One of the earliest concepts was what we now know as the Air Max Zero, which was perhaps too technologically advanced at the time of its design with a majority of the materials and technology needed not yet available. In light of this, the design was reworked into what would eventually become the Air Max 1 and from that an icon was born.

Despite being put to paper before the 1, the zero unknowingly held 3 decades of footwear innovation within its design, from the now popular sock liner to the application of the external heel strap which was not seen again until the release of the Huarache in 1991.  For 29 years the sketch laid dormant within Nike’s ever growing archives, lost amongst the success of every Air Max model introduced since, until recently the Nike Sportswear design team stumbled across the sketch whilst searching for new inspiration for the second annual Air Max day celebrations.

Nike designer Graeme Mcmillan was tasked with bringing Hatfield’s vision into the modern day, a tough ask to say the least, despite the original sketch already being well ahead of its time. All the stops were pulled for the Zero, applying the latest technology from Nike, including the newly introduced Phylon Air Max 1 Ultra outsole which was debuted on the recent Air Max 1 Ultra Moire, bulk reducing fuse uppers that offer stability as well as a monofilament yarn mesh giving maximum breathability. Once again pushing the boundaries of innovation, the Zero is sure to be an instant hit and we fully expect to see more adaptations of the style to come.

The Nike Air Max Zero will be available to pre-order tomorrow (March the 21st) nike.com/sportswear and available from selected Nike Sportswear retailers on Air Max Day itself (March the 26th).

The Quiet Life Spring 2015 “56th & FIG” Collection

The Quiet Life lift the lid on their latest collection for Spring 2015 and their accompanying lookbook entitled “56th & Fig”.

The lookbook gets its name from the intersection of 56th Avenue and Figueroa Street in the Highland Park district of Los Angeles. This season The Quiet Life have enlisted the services of Dan Monick to produce these minimal visuals which compliment the clean, street ready designs that its showcasing. The collection is lead by several lightweight jacket options including coach jacket and quilted gilet styles, a series of wardrobe staples that we have come to expect from the brand including button-up shirts, long sleeves, hoodies and sweaters, as well as a healthy selection of headwear and several small capsules within the main line release including the Eden pack, Hawaiian pack and another instalment of the on going Camera Club collection. A range of cut and sew, colour blocking and pattern techniques have been applied to add some texture to the release.

We’ve seen a lot of what would be considered the ‘core’ streetwear brands out there continue to develop their ranges and take more of a focus in to cut and sew with more considered graphic pieces. Spring 2015 sees possibly Quiet Life’s most mature selection to date with vibrant hits in all the right places, keeping it simple where they need to. It’s great to see the brand move with the times while still remaining true their roots.

The Quiet Life Spring 2015 collection is available now at Urban Industry and 5Pointz

Lost ART x Nike SB present “The Old and the New of Liverpool City” Pack

Liverpool’s Lost ART make their love for their home city known as they link up with Nike SB to explore “The Old and the New of Liverpool City”, with two collaborative styles of the Bruin and the BA silhouettes.

The shoe collaboration sees the two camps solidify their already strong relationship, with the independent store one of the first UK stockist for SB and remaining a key door for the brand till this day.

Lost ART draw inspiration from the cities iconic ‘Docklands’ and derelict LOR (Liverpool Overhead Railway) system, both of which have played a huge part in shaping Liverpool’s history, while also paying homage to cultural diversity and rich heritage of the area.

With the classic Bruin representing the ‘Old’ of the city, references come from the colour and materials applications of the LOR guards uniforms. Constructed from a rich pigskin suede, the shoes upper arrives in all-over black with hits of red and yellow on the mismatched swoosh branding. There is additional wool panelling on the heel counter, a contrasting white sole unit and tongue, with exclusive artwork on the insole to celebrate the release. The ‘New’ SB BA gets more of a modern rework with vibrant red on the heel and teal on the mid-foot meeting with a grey toe box, as a representation of the landscape that surrounds the infamous Docks. The BA silhouette sits on top of a clean white midsole and gum outsole.

Lost Art Skate Shop x Nike SB “The Old and the New of Liverpool City” pack will be dropping exclusively at lostartshop.co.uk on March 14th followed by a global release on March 21st.

Palace Spring/Summer 2015

In one of the most highly anticipated drops of the season, Palace give us a glimpse of what to expect from their Spring/Summer 2015 collection, which also sees the brand re-launch their website for the release.

I’m sure the internet will be going into meltdown when the collection launches tomorrow (Friday 13th of March), although this is mainly down to the hype around the brand, the Spring/Summer release further reiterates why Palace have got to where they are today and is a solid representation of the brands growth. Focusing in on more technical outerwear pieces, the Spring/Summer 2015 collection sees Palace step away from their more graphic based staples and rather concentrates on providing more considered, functional garments that serve for skating just as well as for ‘hitting the pub with your mates’. It’s a far cry from the brands initial t-shirt line, but from its humble beginnings up until now, the brand has continued to maintain their recognisable style.

There is a great mix of outerwear, from lightweight nylon windbreakers to more heavyweight wool bombers, all of which are 100% British made and give consideration to the British ‘summer’. From what we can see from the visuals, the collection is rounded off with some strong graphic based long-sleeves and headwear options, from 5-panels to beanies.

Off the back of their nostalgic sportswear release with Adidas the last year, in which we were beginning to see glimmers of how the brand was planning to develop, we see Palace really step up operations not only through the clothing they produce but as a clothing company. Known for their experimental graphic pieces, they have successfully channeled their creativity into new ventures, in particular cut and sew, offering high quality clothing with a large sportswear influence. As a UK based site its inspiring to see a London skate brand grow and be recognised and widely respected worldwide, simply by doing something they love and supporting those around them. Their latest release continues to bring the brands unique aesthetic that encapsulates British style and fuses it with UK skate influence.

The Palace Spring/Summer 2015 release will be available from the brands web store – palaceskateboards.com, from Friday the 13th of March.

10.Deep Spring 2015 Delivery 1

New York’s 10.Deep continue to deliver clean visuals in their latest look book for their Spring 2015 “American Glitch” collection, with the first delivery entitled “Reckless”.

The brand looks back to the late 90’s/early 2000’s to draw inspiration from american workwear, hunting gear and the everyman ‘fashion’ of the era. For most, including me, the late 90’s/early 2000’s wardrobe is something I would happily forget, but 10.Deep have certainly managed to pull the best from the times and translated the pieces into a highly wearable, street ready collection.

Reworking stonewashed denim, bleached and over washed khakis, with a colour base of red, white and navy, which sets the overall tone for the collection. The release is diverse, comprised of several trouser styles from cuffed pattern joggers to patchwork denim, several button-down shirts and lighter outerwear options. 10.Deep also continue their focus on sportswear themes through various hooded sweaters and nascar themed jerseys.

 10.Deep’s first delivery from their “American Glitch” Spring collection will be available at the following UK retailers shortly;
