adidas Skateboarding drops the Superstar ADV

adidas’ Skateboarding department unveil the Superstar ADV with this clip featuring members of the brands expansive skate team.

In celebration of the classic 90’s silhouette’s skate reincarnation, adidas have put together a short promo clip featuring riders Tyshawn Jones, Chewy Cannon, Benny Fairfax, Jake Donnelly, Dennis Busenitz, Raul Navarro, Nak-el Smith and Miles Silvas exploring spots in Miami and NYC in the shoes.

The shoe itself doesn’t stray too far from the original silhouette. The iconic shell toe and three stripes on the side panels remain, but it has received a few subtle tweaks and modern performance updates to re-engineer and enhance the shoe for skate purposes. The Superstar in its first form was adopted by skateboarders in the early 90’s thanks to its protective rubber shell toe and flat sole, and because of that, just like Nike’s Dunk and Puma’s Suede silhouettes, they played an integral part of that decades skateboarding scene. Perhaps the most notable difference in the new adidas Superstar ADV is it’s weight, with a lighter, less bulky construction on the leather upper which also sees the three stripe branding streamlined on the quarter panels. Cushioning and comfort is important in any skate shoe, and the added drop-in ADIPRENE sock-liner protects the foot upon impact, while the Vector Traction outsole provides enhance grip on the board.

Get a closer look at the new silhouette in the video below and imagery above. The adidas Skateboarding Superstar ADV is available now at www.adidas.com and will be arriving in all good UK skate stores shortly (check back for links).

Nike SB present the Cory Kennedy Zoom All Court.

The long overdue and highly anticipated Cory Kennedy pro shoe from Nike SB is here and its a banger!

Reworking Nike’s classic ‘All Court’ tennis silhouette, the design has been streamlined and materials upgraded into a durable skateboarding staple.  Reducing the bulkiness around the All Court’s original rubber toe cap for improved ‘flick’, the shoes upper has constructed from a tough suede for grip and durability. The black upper is complimented with tonal lacing and contrasted with a white snake skin swoosh and heel panel. The shoes stark white sole unit features Zoom Air technology for responsive, spring-like cushioning for protection when landing.

Vans x Gosha Rubchinskiy Sk8-Hi

Gosha Rubchinskiy adds his own unique twist to another iconic Vans silhouette, as the two parties continue their ongoing partnership to rework the Sk8-Hi.

Having already put out the Russian designers take on the Old Skool and Slip on earlier this year, their latest project sees a new adaptation of the Sk8-Hi, which arrives in 3 colour options and features skate ready material upgrades, while remaining true to the shoes instantly recognisable shape. A hard wearing suede graces the upper, which also features contrasting stitching on the heel and ankle padding, which continues through to the side stripe branding. The vulcanised sole unit sees contrasting rubber reinforcements applied around the toe for added protection and durability.

To commemorate the release, Rubchinskiy has applied his creative direction towards a short 2 minute clip directed by Julian Klincewicz. The film highlights the way in which the youth of today can use subcultures such as skateboarding to unite people with contrasting backgrounds, in this case – people of Russia and the USA. Watch the full video below.

The Vans x Gosha Ruchinskiy Sk8-Hi are available now, in all 3 colour options, over at Dover Street Market.

UBIQ x Asics GEL-Lyte Speed “Cool Breeze”

Asics and UBIQ come through with one of the strongest collabs we have seen this season, as they give the slightly lesser spotted silhouette – the GEL Lyte Speed, a Summer ready rework dubbed “Cool Breeze”

Following on from their popular “Hazard” release from earlier this year, the two parties continue their fruitful partnership as Phillies’ UBIQ apply their creative direction to another classic running style.  Harnessing the refreshing hues of the ocean waters and clear blue skies, the GEL Lyte Speed dons various shades of aqua, sky blue and navy for a bold yet highly wearable look. The shoes upper is reworked with a soft perforated nubuck on the toe box, with suede on the mudguard and overlays, finished with a soft leather on the side panel branding. A speckled GEL midsole adds a bit more pops well as high comfort levels for the wearer, with the tri-coloured outsole complimenting the rest of the design. Added touches in the dual-branded sky graphic insoles complete the summery vibes.

The UBIQ x Asics GEL Lyte Speed “Cool Breeze” will be available at selected retailers including END. and Footpatrol from the 1st of August.

Nike SB Janoski Zoom Low

Nike SB Janoski Zoom Low – Flamingo

The ever popular Nike SB Janoski gets a unique ‘Miami Beach’ inspired rework this summer as part of the seasonal “Flamingo Pack”.

The hugely versatile Janoski is one of the go to styles for the warmer months, and it seems as though Nike really ramp up its creative releases for the summer in a shoe that, over the years, has been subject to countless material and colour reworks. In one of the slightly more daring takes on the low profile skate shoe, Nike SB’s latest effort sees a cracked leather applied to the shoes upper, reminiscent of the flaking paint on the dried up pools and sun drenched verandas of the beach side city. Additional aqua and teal hits add bright summer tones inspired by the surrounding crystal waters, while the pink ‘Flamingo’ graphic on the insole ties in the theme of the pack.

It’s also worth noting the technology packed into the shoes sole unit, with the cushioning Zoom Air technology concealed in the insoles heel, as well as the herringbone tread patter on the vulcanised outsole for extra grip. Perforations on the toe box provide breathability and comfort during extended wear.

The Nike SB Janoski Zoom Low ‘Flamingo’ is available now at Flatspot.

Converse launch the Chuck Taylor All Star II

Introduced to the world almost 100 years ago, the Chuck Taylor All Star has become one of the most popular and most iconic footwear styles of all time. In what is set to be one of the most significant releases of 2015, Converse have announced the first ever upgraded Chuck style, as they present the Chuck II – bringing a classic into modern day.

Originally introduced back in 1917 as an elite basketball shoe, the Chuck’s distinctive make up, which includes a stitched upper, white rubber toe cap and famous ankle patch, has remained largely unchanged up until now. Although the original style will always remain a firm favourite for many, Converse have chosen to give the Chuck a progressive rework this season by listening to those who wear the shoes to work out the ‘nags’ with the original. They have been weary to stay true to the originals DNA without too much alteration or introducing a new silhouette all together. It’s a significant moment for a brand with such a rich heritage as they look to bring their most celebrated style forward with creativity and innovation.

The main focus in the Chuck II rework seems to be comfort, and this is achieved with the addition of a Nike Lunarlon insole and enhanced with a padded foam collar and a non-slip padded tongue for extra cushioning. The new Chuck’s shape mirrors the original but has been enhanced with a durable Tencel canvas on the shoes upper with a breathable perforated micro-suede liner for comfort during extended wear. Additional features include tonal lacing, fully embroidered ‘All Star’ ankle patch, high foxing and monochrome tonal matte eyelets for a premium finish.

The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star II arrives this upcoming Tuesday (July 28th) at Converse stores, select retailers and online over at www.converse.co.ukThe ox (low) can be picked up for £55 and the hi-top for £60, available in four separate colour ways of black, white, red and blue.
