Butter Goods “Quartet” with Casey Foley

Last Thursday, Perth natives Butter Goods released their latest clip dubbed “Quartet” with long time collaborator Josh Roberts. The clip follows team riders Casey Foley, Ben Gore, Alex Campbell, Philly Santosuosso, and friends of the brand – Nick Boserio, Ryan Barlow, Evan Kinori, Zach Chamberlin and Brian Delatorre, as they meet up in the US to hit spots in San Fran, including the legendary EMB, and also through to LA. Following the video’s release we caught up with team rider and photographer Casey Foley to find out a bit more on what went down on the trip…

How long were you out in the states for?

I think it was only 13 or 14 days? We all work full time and Alex was about to have his 3rd kid, so we couldn’t stay that long unfortunatley. Im ready to go back!!!

How does the skating in San Fran and LA compare to Perth?

Im actually from Melbourne but I found it quite similar. I like being on foot when i’m out skating so San Francisco was really good for that. In LA, we pretty much just explored the neighbourhoods of West Hollywood so there was no typical ‘stuck in LA traffic’ scenario which was dope.

Aside from the opener at EMB, there’s a lot of unseen San Fran spots in the video. Did Ben Gore and Philly Santosuosso keep a few spots up their sleeves for this one?

I think Ben may have had a few ideas here and there, but for the most part nothing was planned at all. We would just organise an area to meet up and skate everywhere from there. Locals like Brian Delatorre, Ryan Barlow, Evan Kinori, Richard Hart and Zach Chamberlin were awesome to have around. We would have probably been lost without them. Haha.

Did you feel any added pressure when filming with Super 8?

Oh of course. That shit costs money! Haha. It all worked out tho. Josh killed it with all the Super 8 stuff.

Are there any spots or tricks that stood out in particular?

Philly Santosuosso riding a skateboard in general was the main stand out for me, his whole section was filmed in two days. He couldn’t get time off work to come to San Francisco so he only went to LA. Straight up G that boy!

As for spots, EMB was my favourite. Its was just awesome to skate at a spot that has so much history behind it. Plus my favourite skater is Henry Sanchez haha!

Who was partying the hardest on the trip?

To be honest, we were all way to excited to skate everyday, so we didn’t really party at all. I mean, we would drink every night but yeah. Oh except for Nick Boserios pro party. That was a good time. I slapped a BUTTER sticker on Forests Edwards board which was pretty funny. Ben Gore was a fucking animal that night man haha.

Any stand out moments?

Hahah, Philly Santosuosso buying Keith Hufnagel and his lady friend cupcakes was amazing. We were all leaving this restaurant and we seen Huf and his Mrs having dinner, and Philly’s like “Yo man, Im gonna get them some desert… I gotta get them some cupcakes dude”. I guess it was to show his appreciation for Huf’s contribution to skateboarding or something… Fuck it was funny though.

Also, meeting and skating with the legendary Matt Field was awesome. He’s such a nice dude and listening to stories of his professional skateboarding career was too good!

What’s up next for the Butter Goods team?

Not sure man. The team has expanded even more now, with Mike Arnold in the UK and Taylor Nawrocki in New York, so perhaps we will meet those dudes. I would love to see all the overseas team riders come to Australia this time!

Check out this awesome photo series from the trip, featuring imagery and comments from Garth Mariano and Casey Foley…

Brain Dead “World Update” Installation at DSM London

BrainDead-WorldUpdate-1

In celebration of common interests, Brain Dead and Dover Street Market come together on an exclusive collaborative collection and a new in-store installation at DSM’s London location.

The theme of both the collection and installation centres around the pairs shared passions in various trends and emerging subcultures from music, culture and art, and the space in-between these worlds. Although it’s their most diverse offering so far, it’s not the first time the two parties have come together on a collaborative venture, with Brain Dead putting their artistic direction towards an exclusive t-shirt collection towards the end of last year.

The new “World Update” installation is set to host exhibitions, as well as showcase zines, records and extremely limited art pieces that align with Brain Dead’s aesthetic. The main focus of the space will be the latest Brain Dead x DSM collaborative collection which features a monochromatic selection of unique graphic tees, crewneck sweatshirts, custom headwear and the stand out ‘Jumanji’ jacket. Capping it all off, there will also be a scarf exhibit displayed on the walls of the space, featuring the work of Clay Arlington, Kevin Harris, Tim Head, Chris Oh, Jen Shear and B. Thom Stevenson. Each piece is unique and arrives in editions of 5. When purchased each scarf will come with a hand-signed certificate from each artist and will be presented in a collectors box

You can shop the Brain Dead x Dover Street Market collection over on the DSM website now. If you’re around London over the next two weeks, be sure to head down to the store to check out the space.

Indcsn Holiday 2015 Lookbook

indcsn have teamed up with in-demand photographer Vicky Grout for their Holiday 2015 visuals, capturing their latest release against an East London backdrop.

The latest release from the leeds based brand continues to keep things simple throughout, with minimal logo detailing, staple silhouettes and a monochromatic colour palette with pops of red here and there. Keeping it concise, the collection is comprised of empty box-logo tees, embroidered polo caps and patch detailed beanies, alongside some more considered pieces in the brushed cotton plaid shirt and sleek all black varsity jacket bearing the brands 'Forget The Rest' slogan. Although it's nothing groundbreaking from indcsn, it's good to see the UK brand continue to build off their renowned aesthetic, playing to their strengths and producing quality over quantity.

The indcsn Holiday 2015 collection is available now at www.indcsn.com

Carhartt WIP FW15

Carhartt WIP Fall/Winter 2015 Lookbook

Carhartt WIP team up with Irish photographer Joshua Gordon and British artist Tim Head for an artistic approach to their Fall/Winter visuals.

Continuing to develop the heritage workwear brand's street level 'Work In Progress' range, the collection delivers simplistic workwear shapes, updated for the modern wearer, offering quality, comfort and durability throughout. It's a diverse range which takes a focus towards the outerwear line, with various options including parka jackets and bomber silhouettes. Alongside the heavier cut & sew styles you will find more staple pieces in the bold graphic tees, camo print hoodies and casual checked shirts, as well as a small selection of headwear. The simplicity and minimalism of the clothing is reflected through Gordon's black and white imagery which is brought to life with the decorative scrawls from Tim Head, reminiscent of the Automatic Drawing style from the likes of Jean Arp, with inspiration drawn from the DIY hardcore zines and lo-fi aesthetic of the early 90's.

You can find out more on the brand and shop the latest from Carhartt WIP over on their webstore now. Be sure to check the interview with artist Tim Head on the campaigns art direction HERE

stussy-patta-3

Stussy x Patta AW15 Collection

Streetwear institution Stussy comes together with Amsterdam mainstay Patta this season for the pairs first fully fledged collection.

Both brands share similar values and a similar approach, though Stussy's heritage and geographical location means that it may of had a larger impact on the global streetwear scene over the years, Patta's role in todays modern movement can't be overlooked, and both can be credited with having a hand in shaping the industry as we know it. Their interests in music, art and classic sportswear, as well as their shared spirit of independence has allowed the relationship to grow strong over the years, leading to a few collaborative capsule collections along the way. As Stussy continue to celebrate 35 years of prominence in streetwear and Patta continue to build on their already hugely influential presence on the global market, the timing seemed right for the pair to put their heads together on an expanded collaborative release.

The collection is largely graphic led and keeps things fairly simple throughout, drawing inspiration from 90's sportswear and applying retro colour treatments to their designs. A majority of the collection consists of bold dual branded staples such as tees, long sleeves and sweaters, but you will also find more considered fleece sweaters and functional outerwear, again referencing 90's athletic themes. Something that both Patta and Stussy do well in their main line collections and collaborative ventures is doing the simple things well, and whenever they do look to expand in to more experimental pieces, each piece has reason behind it. Rounding off the collection is a selection of knitwear, a tracksuit and also some patch work denim, inspired by past era trends in the Netherlands that Patta has always stayed true to and contributed to it's recent resurgence through ventures such as this.

It's great to see both brands give the fans what they want, not over complicating things and putting together a well rounded collection. The Stussy x Patta Autumn/Winter release will be available to purchase at Stussy's New York location and Patta's Amsterdam store on December the 12th, and will be available at Patta retailers, Stussy Chapters and stussy.com from the 18th of December.
