Watch: The Story Of Vans

Today marks 50 years since the Van Doren Rubber Company opened its first location in Anaheim, CA as a small family run business. Since then Vans has grown in to a global powerhouse, and the impact that the brands has had on youth culture over the years, most notably in skateboarding and music has been monumental, and it continues to play a huge role in various sub cultures today. As a brand that encourages and promotes creative expression and individuality, it seems fitting that they put together this new visual campaign, using animation and a unique illustrative style to tell the story the iconic company. Covering the birth of the company, the inception of some of the most iconic footwear silhouettes of all time and also the impact it has had in music, fashion and art, the video gives a great overview of then until now, give it a watch above.

Brixton Spring 2016 Lookbook

With solid visuals and timeless design, it's much the same from Brixton for Spring 2016, as they bring the sunshine in their latest lookbook.

With every Brixton collection you're guaranteed to see graphic led tees, heavyweight flannel shirts and an accomplished headwear range, and although some brands may fail without adapting or adhering to current trends, with Brixton it's different, as they continue to develop the timeless aesthetic they have built throughout the years and it continues to remain relevant and interesting season after season. Again drawing inspiration from the culture that surrounds the brand and their native California, with a sensibility towards classic Americana workwear, Brixton deliver quality, highly wearable goods for both men and woman.

The Spring collection sees Brixton expand their cut & sew offering, with more options in the trouser department, including the robust ‘Reserve Rigid 5-Pocket’ pant and ‘Fleet Rigid 5-Pocket’ pant, as well as new lightweight outerwear and stand out shirting pieces - including the four pocket denim over-shirt. The brands staple headwear line sees new introductions, including the ‘Manhattan’ fedora and ‘Leo’ fedora, as well as new updates in popular existing styles as well as continuing to develop their women's headwear range. HUF Spring 2016 Video Lookbook

HUF Spring 16 Video Lookbook

LA giants HUF have unveiled the visuals for their Spring 2016 apparel and footwear collection, showcasing the collection against a picturesque backdrop of the American outdoors.

The short video lookbook shot by Brandon Kuzma follows a group of friends as they embark on road trip through Sierra Nevada, capturing key pieces from the brands latest release alongside spectacular landscapes, camp fires and pool clubs. The collection itself draws inspiration from a variety of sources, citing US military and classic American-infused workwear as key influences in the design. The stand out Golden Tiger Stripe Camo continues to feature heavily throughout this release, while iconic patchwork bandana prints act as a further nod towards heritage American garments. It looks as though we can expect to see updates on some of the staple HUF silhouettes and logo designs, alongside some more athletic inspired pieces with a streetwear sensibility. Within the release we also find the highly anticipated SPAM collab, as well as more pieces from the brands ongoing project with online skateboard publication SLAP Magazine.

In terms of footwear, the video indicates that the new Dylan slip-on and Brad Cromer’s debut pro-model are going to be a big focus’ for the brand this year . We also see glimpses of the hugely popular Classic Lo silhouette, as well as new rework of the Classic Hi, working with British Millerain Co. on a waterproof version of the skate ready style.

Krusoe Winter Editorial

Autosave-File vom d-lab2/3 der AgfaPhoto GmbH

Towards the end of last year we were asked by Brighton based streetwear, menswear & lifestyle store KRUSOE to produce a short editorial for their Winter collections.

It’s been a hugely progressive year for the young store, who have managed to build on their humble beginnings and add some of the most exciting and respected brands in the market, something that is great to see in our native city. Now stocking the likes of Beinghunted, Satta, PRMTVO, Wig Wam socks and Born x Raised, which sit next to timeless brands such as Wood Wood and Dickies, the store definitely has a strong sense of direction and offers an alternative to the highly saturated shop fronts we find on the high street.

The aim of the visuals were to be relatable and to represent the general vibe around the store. We chose the relaxed surroundings of a minimal Brighton home to showcase key pieces from KRUSOE’s collections with model Ed McRae.

Carhartt SS16 Lookbook 1

Carhartt WIP SS16 Lookbook

Carhartt's street level 'Work In Progress' imprint have released the visuals to their SS16 collection, which sees the brand update some of their more familiar styles as well as introduce some new seasonal pieces.

While maintaining Carhartt's ethos in robust, durable construction, Carhartt WIP's approach is a lot more accessible and allows the brand to experiment with different influences in their design . For Spring/Summer 2016 we see a lot more sportswear and athletic inspired pieces, with collegiate text featuring on coach jacket styles, rugby shirts, hoodies and sweaters, as well as a two piece tracksuit which includes a track top and bottoms, a far cry from the brands workwear roots. They have made use of various prints throughout, with military inspired camouflage applied to several items and seasonal tropical prints on short-sleeve shirts, as well as updating classic workwear designs and fabrications, such as the denim dungarees and chore jacket styles, which have been reworked with a streetwear sensibility. The collection is rounded off with a concise footwear and accessory range, including sunglasses, slip-on shoes and a fold out chair for those camp-outs.

Carhartt WIP’s SS16 collection is available now at select stockists and Carhartt's webstore.

By Parra SS16 “Detached” Collection

Dutch brand By Parra, formerly known as Rockwell By Parra, have dropped the "Detached" collection for Spring/Summer 2016 which sees the brand continue to build upon their distinctive aesthetic.

For those, like myself, who are fans of dutch artist Piet Parra's work, it's great to see how seamlessly his design elements are translated on to apparel, and also developed in to various cut & sew silhouettes. Parra's renowned curvy post-pop imagery and vibrant colour palette's do feature on graphic tees, sweaters, hoodies and headwear in the latest release, but its the cut & sew range, in particular the outerwear, that really takes centre stage. The colour blocked windbreakers and branded coach jackets have been constructed from water and wind repellent fabrics. The stand out 1994 Windbreaker features functional detailing including a fold away hood, media pockets and draw cords at the collar and waist. The jacket is finished with a custom Parra print on the mesh lining and subtle woven patch detailing.

You can pick up the By Parra "Detached" collection over on the brands website and select pieces at Flatspot. now
