NikeLab Presents ACG: Defining Sport Utility for the City

Following whispers of a return from the swoosh camp over the last few weeks, we can now take a closer look at the full rebirth of NikeACG as NikeLab ACG this Winter.

A true fans-favourite, the ACG department was started over 30 years ago with the focus on providing the wearer with protection and performance in all conditions. Despite the name being featured on a series of footwear releases of late, Nike ACG has been obsolete for years up until now. This Winter, ACG has returned to present a selection of apparel, footwear and accessories that combine style and function, drawing inspiration from sportswear design and the modern athlete.

Innovation is at the heart at everything Nike do, and their latest ACG release is a solid representation of that. Linking up with Berlin-based designer and Acronym co-founder, Errolson Hugh, the collection utilises his knowledge in design to hone in on construction, fit and the functionality required for everyday life.

From outerwear pieces in the 2 in1 Jacket down to the travel essentials in the Responder backpack, each item from the release considers mobility and durability, working with pioneering materials including the Dri-Fit Wool and Tech Fleece. The collection arrives in a dark colour palette, predominantly black, applying reflective logos for an easy transition between subtlety and visibility.

Also key to city living is appropriate footwear. First surfacing back in 2013, the Nike ACG LunarTerra Arktos gets a weatherised rework as part of the collection, drawing design elements from Nike’s recently released sneakerboot range. The upper is constructed from a water-repellant mesh and leather vamp to keep your feet dry, while the sticky outsole is made for maximum traction and stability. The shoe also features Nike’s Flywire technology for flexibilty, waterproof laces and thermal lining for warmth. The ACG Flyknit Trainer Chukka SFB also features with its adaptive fit and superior cushioning system. The shoe uses Defender Repellent Systems™ spray for water resistance and includes a perforated sock liner for warmth and comfort, as well as breathability.

While taking a slightly different approach to the traditional outdoor explorer, the latest wave of ACG has developed into the modern day, but still holds the values that the are close to the brand. The result is a premium collection that embodies everything Nike and continues to evolve their forward thinking approach, while looking back at their rich heritage.

The NikeLab ACG collection will be available at nike.com from the 18th of December.
